What amazing news for North Alabama!
Today’s announcement brings more than just a new manufacturing plant to our region. The shared $1.6 billion Toyota-Mazda complex will bring 4,000 jobs to the Huntsville area, an emphasis on tech-based auto technology, and an incredible boon to the real estate market.

ABC 3340 had an exclusive interview with Weichert, Realtors® – Carter & Company’s own Wendy, Sue, and Scott about the effects of this announcement on North Alabama real estate.
Set to open in 2021 with a goal of producing 300,000 cars a year, this new factory is very exciting for those of us in Cullman County. Plans to construct the facility in neighboring Limestone County (the auto giants have chosen a spot near I-565 in Athens) mean that interest in our own beautiful area will increase. With our top-performing Blue Ribbon public schools, affordable housing, and renowned Southern hospitality, Cullman is going to be a popular place to settle down. We’re ready to welcome all of the newcomers with open arms!
This joint-venture plant will be the only Mazda facility in the United States. The Toyota portion of the complex joins the company’s expanding Huntsville engine factory as a major employer in the region. Sharing the facility equally allows the automakers to control costs and to work together on developing advanced auto technologies, as well as producing Toyota Corollas and a new Mazda model. With a focus on hybrid and electric automotive science, this new plant also raises the bar for the tech industry in North Alabama.
At Weichert, Realtors® – Carter & Company, we’re thrilled with the news that this announcement brings. We already know that Cullman County is a wonderful place to live. The increased economic opportunities and spotlight on our region means that a few more people will learn that, too.
Please join us in welcoming the new neighbors who will soon be lucky enough to call Cullman County home!
